Beta 1.3 Release


Merry Christmas! Version 1.3 of the game is out. I'm calling it a Beta now instead of an Alpha due to being mostly complete.

New features:

  • Pokemon attacks now have animations! The art quality is a little all over the place but they're there.
  • Menu buttons now have sound effects! Advancing to the next line of dialog does not make a sound because it would be annoying. Ditto for the "back" button.
  • The battle HUDs now show pokemons genders and status effects, and the little pokeball icon indicating which one is yours.
  • Added day 5/Friday and a brief epilogue, to tie up the story. The game now has three-ish endings depending on how you count them. 
  • Added a brand new lewd scene with Cynthia! The old scene now only triggers if Cynthia has been getting drunk over and over on prior days. The new scene is separate from the drunken scene, and getting the drunken one won't help you get this one. The new scene is accessed by getting a high love stat with Cynthia.

Bug fixes:

  • The player now sends out the correct pokemon when snooping around Jasmine's house.
  • Fixed an edge case where the punks at the lighthouse could teleport between the lighthouse and Jasmine's house.
  • The lighthouse battle is no longer a guaranteed flawless victory.
  • Screen transitions out of the map screen are now smoother.
  • The battle at the lighthouse could get stuck if Venomoth had exactly 20 HP left, due to sloppy greater-than/less-than logic under the hood. This has been corrected.
  • Fixed an issue where the first chat scene with Cynthia could trigger twice due to you running out of things to talk about. Thank you vemerl for finding this bug.

Minor stuff:

  • Removed the option to skip the first night of coffee/drinks with Cynthia, because  it meant the player skipped some pretty important information, like "Why is Cynthia here?" and "What pokemon does the player have?" There was no advantage to skipping this scene anyway. The bar/coffee scenes on later days are still skippable - right now this doesn't do anything, but it's planned to have an effect in the future.
  • Lapras uses Ice Beam instead of Blizzard because it was easier to animate.
  • The sprite used for the window icon no longer has blue eyes.

Known Issues:

  • Revisiting Kate on route 39 has a major bug where one of the scenes crashes the game. This will be fixed next update.
  • Volume for music and sound effects is inconsistent and generally too loud.  Also the music doesn't loop correctly. This is a priority to fix for the next version. I might actually release a 1.3.1 version that just fixes the audio and adds nothing else. Not sure yet.
  • Capitalization of the word Pokémon and the various species names is inconsistent throughout the whole VN. Ditto for the terms "Pokemon League," "Pokemon Ranger," "Gym Leader," etc. I haven't decided what the "correct" capitalization even is, but once I do I'll go through and try to make everything consistent.
  • The game tracks a love stat for Jasmine but right now it doesn't do anything at all. This is going to do something in future versions. (See note on lewd scenes below)
  • There's a couple places where the game offers you a Good Cop/Bad Cop option. Right now these don't do anything special, the game doesn't even track them. I might cut this, or turn it into an actual mechanic. Not really sure right now.

Things that are not bugs:

  • The currency used is ¥ (yen) when it should be Pokedollars. The closest symbol that I could find for the Pokedollar is ₽(Russian ruble) or ₱ (Philippine peso) but I don't want to imply that Johto uses rubles or pesos, so I just went with yen.
  • The music played during the party is randomized, because it's coming from the radio you borrowed from the coffee shop.
  • The clock on Jasmine's computer reads 1/1/1970, 12:01am. This is because her CMOS battery died.
  • Absol always crits when it hits. This is because Absol is a badass.
  • Sheer Cold never fails. This is because Betsy is a dirty hacker and her Pokemon is level 255.
  • There is a small chance (around 1/100) that some blue haired chick shows up in the Docks.

Plans for future releases:

  • Add an achievement system to keep track of what the player has and hasn't seen. (The whole of day 4, for example, has three different versions, and that day can end in like five different ways)
  • More secrets/side routes.
  • More choices/options in general for the more linear scenes.
  • Add a "cheat mode" where you can see the love stats for Cynthia and Jasmine.

A note on current and future lewd scenes:

  • Any lewd scenes will give you the option to opt out before any nudity or sex is shown or described. I might add an option at the start of the game to let the player proactively opt out of lewd scenes before even starting the story. Not sure.
  • There is no lewd scene involving Jasmine yet. One or more scenes are planned for her in the future.
  • There is no lewd scene planned for Kate, due to a lack of available art. I would need  to commission (or beg for) a bunch of art and if I were to do that I'd do it for Cynthia or Jasmine first. (Also Kate's age is a little suspect. I had her specifically call out that she's 19 at the bar because I can't tell how old that character is meant to be based on the official art.)
  • There are no lewd scenes planned for any of the other characters.

What's the threshold for the love scene? I'm ending the day before the cruise leaving on 10 love and it's not proccing the scene

The scene triggers if love is greater than 10. So you need 11. I'm probably going to change that because right now if you have exactly 10 the cop in the lobby calls Cynthia your "lover" but then you don't get the lewd scene. Kinda misleading in retrospect.
