Assets, also, Discord!

So first of all, me and VNAnon have set up a discord server. The purpose of the server is the creation and discussion of Pokemon visual novels. If you liked Olivine Lights, or if you want to see other games like it, or you just want to talk to people who also play this sort of thing, this might be the discord server for you. It's brand new, so it's still growing.

Second, I wanted to share some of the art assets that I actually made. I can't draw worth a damn, so all the major art in the game was either edited from official art, or commissioned from other artists. But I did do some of the work myself.

This shows up as part of a banner ad on the suspect's computer. It's supposed to be based on the logo for Dogecoin. The art of Growlithe is official art from Nintendo/Gamefreak, just edited. If I find out that Growlcoin is a real thing, I'm going to be upset.

This shows up on Cynthia's coffee cup a couple times in the hotel. It's based on the Starbucks logo. I tried drawing it with the same "fins" on the side that the Starbucks logo has, but it looked better without them. Again, this is traced from official art so I didn't really draw it.

I had a vague idea that maybe I could find some cool art of Registeel to steal, or edit something myself, or maybe commission something.  In Alpha 1.0, this poster was originally just described in the narration. 

• There's faded poster on the wall above the bed. Looks like maybe a childhood heirloom. It shows Registeel posed dramatically in front of a starry background, with the text "BELIEVE IN YOURSELF" in huge gold letters at the bottom.

Eventually I made the poster and edited it into the background of Jasmine's bedroom. Again, that Registeel is official art from Nintendo/Gamefreak. I just added the text and the background and the rainbow.  I thought it still looked a little flat and plain, so I added the wrinkle texture to make it looked a little weathered. This is supposed to look kind of cheap and cheesy, since it's supposed to be something cheap that Jasmine got in a toy store when she was a kid.

So this is supposed to be Cynthia's TM case. I thought I'd be able to find official art for this, somewhere, but I couldn't find it. Then I tried using a picture of a CD case or something, but it looked stupid. So finally I took the sprite from this screen:

And I just upscaled and traced it.

Same deal with the Mega Stone, I just found a small sprite and traced it.

I can't take credit for making any of these assets, since they're all made using official art that I don't own. So if you want to use one of these for something, go right ahead. You don't have to credit me but it'd be cool if you did.

(If I find out someone ends up using that Growlcoin logo for an actual cryptocurrency, I'm going to jump off a bridge.)

The only other art assets that I can say I "made" are the box that Jasmine identifies as the packaging for a master ball. That was a piece of navy blue cardboard that I had lying around from something, I don't remember what. I folded it into a rough cube, took a photo, cut out the background, and adjusted the color to be purple. I'm resourceful like that.
