Alpha 1.2 Known Issues


I will add to this post as I become aware of bugs.

Visible bugs and problems:

  • (new) A player reported being able to show your pokemon to Cynthia twice, even after evolving. So far I haven't been able to recreate this bug on my end and my best guesses for what could cause this turned out to be wrong. This may take some time to fix unless someone else runs into it and can give me some more info for the exact route they took.
  • I think the battle at the glitter lighthouse is impossible to lose, making it basically pointless.  Need to adjust how much damage various attacks do.
  • It may be possible for you and Cynthia to run out of things to talk about at the end of the day. If this happens you'll see a message that says "As of the alpha release of this game, there might not be enough dialog written yet to go here." The game should still proceed normally if this happens.
  • It might be possible to try to go to the docks and the game will break and send you back to the start. This will happen if you tried to go to the docks and you have done and/or not done a specific combination of things that I failed to account for. But I think I accounted for everything and this can't actually happen.
  • Capitalization of the word Pokémon and the various species names is inconsistent throughout the whole VN. I haven't decided on whether something like "beldum" is a species name, a proper name, or both, or sometimes one and sometimes the other. I looked into this and the people in charge of style guides for grammar in books and stuff don't seem to have a guide for pokemon names for some reason. Once I've decide how I want to handle capitalization, I'll go through the whole VN and make it all consistent. 
  • Nelson or Shawn might be standing in slightly odd positions due to their new sprites being much less wide than their old placeholders. I thought I moved them to better positions but I could've missed some.
  • After meeting the punks outside Jasmine's house, they can still show up outside the lighthouse despite your specific instructions.

Under the hood:

  • The game tracks both jaz_love and cyn_love stats which can be increased in various ways, but right now these don't actually do anything except change or enable a couple lines of dialog in random scenes. I'm going to make these stats actually matter more.
  • There's a couple places where the game offers you a Good Cop/Bad Cop option. Right now these don't do anything special, the game doesn't even track them. I might cut this, or turn it into an actual mechanic. Not really sure right now.

Things that are not bugs:

  • The currency used is ¥ (yen) when it should be Pokedollars. The closest symbol that I could find for the Pokedollar is ₽(Russian ruble) or ₱ (Philippine peso) but I don't want to imply that Johto uses rubles or pesos, so I just went with yen.
  • The music played during the party is randomized, because it's coming from the radio you borrowed from the coffee shop.
  • The clock on Jasmine's computer reads 1/1/1970, 12:01am. This is because her CMOS battery died.
  • Absol always crits. This is because Absol is a badass.
  • Sheer Cold never fails. This is because Betsy is a dirty hacker and her Pokemon is level 255.
  • There is a small chance that some blue haired chick shows up in the Docks. I don't know what she's doing there.

Feels weird reading about a bug I reported being here as the newest thing lol

By the way, I encountered this bug  twice now, and when I did, (for some reason it felt appropriate), had either a coffee only run or a booze only run, not sure if this has to do with anything.

Well that's weird. But your info should help me reproduce it so I can fix the problem. Thanks.
